The inversion setting determines which note in a chord is the lowest sounding. (called the inversion note) When an inversion is set, all notes below the inversion note are shifted up an octave until the inversion note is the lowest note.
Inversion Values:
Root Position – root of chord is in the bass
1st Inversion – 2nd note of chord is in the bass
2nd Inversion – 3rd note of chord is in the bass
3rd Inversion – 4th note of chord is in the bass
4th Inversion – 5th note of chord is in the bass
5th Inversion – 6th note of chord is in the bass
6th Inversion – 7th note of chord is in the bass
If an inversion setting is higher than the number of notes in a chord, the inversion will default to root position.
